Do you have any questions?

Hi, Reader!

With the special launch price of my new on-demand resume writing course ending tomorrow, I thought I’d answer a few questions that people have asked.

Q: I'm not applying to colleges yet. Why should I start writing my resume now?

A: High schoolers of any age are encouraged to get a head start on their resume. It's easier to document their activities and involvement as they participate, and this gives them the perfect structure for doing so.

Juniors will also want to start thinking about letters of recommendation the SPRING of their junior year, and having this start to the resume will make things even easier for them and will help their teachers write better letters of recommendation.

A well-planned resume can help students of any age improve their chances of getting jobs and internships.

Q: Are resumes important for applying to UT-Austin and A&M?

A: UT-Austin and A&M are unique in that they admit students to the SCHOOL first and THEN to the major. Both schools look for what's called "fit to major." That means they're looking at your major-related experience, like internships, activities, and more.

A strong resume that shows your fit with your top-choice major can improve your chances of being accepted into that major, although it's not guaranteed.

For UT, showing you're a good fit for your top-choice major through your resume is increasingly important.

For A&M, resumes can support your admission into a major, but they appear to be more important for engineering majors.

Even if you're an auto-admit to the schools, you're not guaranteed acceptance into your major. This means a resume can be another important part of the admissions puzzle.

Q: Can't I write my resume without the help of this course?

A: Absolutely. There are plenty of resources online to guide you.

However, this course walks you through each step of the process — ideal for students who are applying to selective schools or scholarships that require a resume and for students who want to make sure their resumes are strong and effective. My step-by-step instructions and companion guide will help you do just that.

If you have any questions of your own before grabbing your course access for just $67, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Happy Resume Writing,

Julia

Hi, Reader! Today I want to do a little 3-2-1 game with you so we can get to know each other a little better. Ready? Let's go! 3 things going well in life right now: I'm getting ready to head down to Miami to pack up my daughter to bring her home for the summer. Thank goodness for CollegeBoxes. They pick up her moving boxes right from her dorm room and then deliver them to our front door. (Then they do the same thing in reverse in the fall.) Definitely simplifies moving — check them out to...

Hi, Reader! May (and summer vacation!) are just around the corner, and things are ramping up. Both of my kids are prepping for finals, and my essay students are gearing up for AP exams, followed quickly by their own finals. I know that doesn't leave a lot of time for college planning right now. And that's OK. But once you get a little breathing time, here are some things you can consider doing to get the most out of your summer. 9th-graders Build an awesome summer reading list: Start with...

Hi, Reader! It’s April 16, and do you know what that means? Either you were on the ball and filed your taxes yesterday and you’re breathing a sigh of relief today, or you’re like my household and didn’t quite get everything done like we’d hoped and had to file an extension. The years we have to file an extension in my household drive me crazy. We get the materials in January, and I try to get most of it uploaded. But then time gets away from us and BOOM. We’re up against a deadline and...
