3+2+1=???

Hi, Reader!

Today I want to do a little 3-2-1 game with you so we can get to know each other a little better. Ready? Let's go!

3 things going well in life right now:

  1. I'm getting ready to head down to Miami to pack up my daughter to bring her home for the summer. Thank goodness for CollegeBoxes. They pick up her moving boxes right from her dorm room and then deliver them to our front door. (Then they do the same thing in reverse in the fall.) Definitely simplifies moving — check them out to see if they serve your future college.
  2. I’ve gotten to my almost-final draft of the personal statement I’m doing with the College Essay Guy team. If you’re curious to see how I went from a 2,000-word draft to a 650-word one, check out my progress here.
  3. My hummingbirds are back. I always enjoy seeing the hummingbirds return for the summer. It’s amazing how much sugar water we go through!

2 things I'm excited about for this summer:

  1. I’ll be working with College Essay Guy part-time this year as a Family Liaison (I'm also an essay reviewer and blog writer for them). Not only does my work with CEG let me collaborate with a brilliant community of college admission specialists, but it also lets me learn new essay coaching skills that improve my work with my one-on-one students.
  2. I've been invited back to Texas A&M this summer to give a 3-day essay- and resume-writing workshop. Gig 'em!

And now I want to hear from you, Reader!

Hit Reply, and let me know 1 thing in life that you're excited about! Truly! I want to know.

Happy Writing!

Julia

Hi, Reader! May (and summer vacation!) are just around the corner, and things are ramping up. Both of my kids are prepping for finals, and my essay students are gearing up for AP exams, followed quickly by their own finals. I know that doesn't leave a lot of time for college planning right now. And that's OK. But once you get a little breathing time, here are some things you can consider doing to get the most out of your summer. 9th-graders Build an awesome summer reading list: Start with...

Hi, Reader! It’s April 16, and do you know what that means? Either you were on the ball and filed your taxes yesterday and you’re breathing a sigh of relief today, or you’re like my household and didn’t quite get everything done like we’d hoped and had to file an extension. The years we have to file an extension in my household drive me crazy. We get the materials in January, and I try to get most of it uploaded. But then time gets away from us and BOOM. We’re up against a deadline and...

Hi, Reader! Happy Day-After-the-Eclipse Day! It was a gloomy (an understatement!) day here in Texas yesterday, and I caught the very beginning of the eclipse … and then we were in thunderstorms for the rest of it. I was bummed, but you can’t fight Mother Nature, can you? And that leaves me with a package of 10 new eclipse glasses and nothing to look at. So what does one do with them? I posted this on my Facebook page yesterday, but I thought it was worth repeating here (in case you're not...
